More of the best solar batteries for solar

We have already looked at our top three best solar batteries, so lets look at a further selection of batteries that have equal qualities along with potential drawbacks.

The battery list

  • LG Chem RESU-10H

Easily best value for money

  • BYD Battery-Box Premium HV

Chosen for its versatility

  • Generac PWRcell

Best for its power

Lets look at each one in detail.

LG Chem RESU-10H

The LG Chem RESU-10H is a solar battery produced in South Korea and has established itself as one of the most popular products on the market. Its 90% usable capacity indicates that 9.8 kWh is more than some higher capacity versions, and it’s also quite light at 97kg.

The LG Chem RESU-10H battery, priced at approximately £5,100, is the best value for money based on its features. If you don’t require the 9.8 kWh capacity, opting for the 4.2 kWh model will lower the cost to £3,300.

Possible drawbacks

LG offers a 60% energy retention guarantee over the battery’s lifetime; however, this is 10% less than guarantees offered by Tesla and Enphase.

  • Price: Around £5,100
  • Dimensions: 744mm x 907mm x 206mm
  • Weight: 97 kg
  • Capacity: 9.8 kWh
  • Usable capacity: 9.3 kWh
  • Depth of Discharge: 100%
  • Max power output: 9.45 kW
  • Installation: Standing indoor only
  • Warranty: 10 years or minimum 4,000 cycles

BYD Battery-Box Premium HV

The BYD Battery-Box Premium HV is known for its high performance and adaptability, making it ideal for commercial solar PV systems. For personal use, the 8.3 kWh version would be your best bet. This will have enough power to meet your daily needs.

For commercial applications, bigger homes, or simply more capacity, the 22.1 kWh model is the way to go. Despite the higher storage capacity of the Powervault 3, it is often too big and powerful for most residential situations.

The BYD Battery-Box Premium HV is a versatile solar battery able to work well in most environments. This is due to the cobalt-free lithium-ion batteries, which function better than batteries that use cobalt in high temperatures.

Possible drawbacks

Although it has the potential for a high capacity, the manufacturer says it’s only good for approximately 3,000 cycles. Keep in mind that this is still a considerable amount of cycles, but there is always the chance you’ll have to replace the unit sooner than with other solar batteries.

  • Price: Around £8,145
  • Dimensions: 2,210mm x 585mm x 298mm
  • Weight: 319 kg
  • Capacity: 22.1 kWh (This is as a modular unit and can be decreased if required)
  • Usable capacity: Up to 21.1 kWh
  • Depth of Discharge: 95%
  • Max power output: 20 kW
  • Installation: Standing indoor only
  • Warranty: 10 years or minimum 3,000 cycles

Generac PWRcell

The Generac PWRcell provides greater power than any other battery on the market, with a potential output of 34 kWh. With more battery power available to you, the more devices and appliances you can run simultaneously.

It is still quite flexible and because it is modular, you can begin with 8 kWh. You can increase this in 3 kWh increments which allows you to precisely customize the capacity for your needs.

The unit’s Smart Management Modules are very helpful, allowing you to manage power distributions during a power outage. This ensures that any vital power needs are met.

Possible drawbacks

The Generac PWRcell’s enormous storage capacity is not cheap. The 22.1 kWh mid-range option will set you back around £14,600.

  • Price: Around £14,600
  • Dimensions: 559mm x 254mm x 1,727mm
  • Weight: up to 400 kg
  • Capacity: 9-36 kWh (This is as a modular unit and can be increased and decreased if required)
  • Usable capacity: Up to 8-33 kWh
  • Depth of Discharge: 95%
  • Max power output: 7.5-34 kW
  • Installation: Standing indoor only
  • Warranty: 10 years or unlimited cycles

In Summary

The LG Chem RESU-10H is by far the best in terms of value for money. For versatility we have gone with the BYD Battery-Box Premium HV model and for that extra power you cant get any better than the Generac PWRcell battery system.
